Popup Window Stack

PopupWindow Stack

opens a new page in a customizable popup window

Use this stack to force a link to open a new browser window with a certain width, height, position and other options. Use this stack for showing information in a new window like
  • some help text (think twice: aren't you doing something wrong that you need it?)
  • or even audio that will keep playing while you continue browsing (only where it has a proper function like on sites of bands, musicians etc. of course; or if your customer insists – otherwise you would never use that, would you?).

Visit the demo page for more useful examples.

There are several options in the stack. These are best illustrated on the demo page.
Using the same theme for the page that shows in the popup is rarely a good idea. Usually, you don’t want to show elements like the menu, the page title, the slogan, the footer etc. on those pages.
If you use a framework like Foundry, Foundation, uikit or alike you can set up the pages you want to show in the popups with just the elements you want. If you use a ‘regular’ theme, the easiest and most flexible way is to use a blank theme for those pages. You can style such a page with the options in stacks. There are several themes like that available, but personally I prefer Blank 5.1 by ThemeFlood, because it has the most styling options.

Last resort would be to use custom CSS to hide the elements you don’t want. I do not recommend that unless you are familiar with CSS.
Need help using it on a non-stacks page? Here’s a tutorial.

  • When the visitor has JavaScript disabled in his browser, the popup window will open in the same window.
  • Links that are set to open in a popup window, do not work in Preview Mode. Export or publish your site to see this stack in action.
  • On mobile platforms (iOS, Android,…) the popups will open in a regular new tab.
  • Not every browser respects every option of the stack. For more details, see this overview.
